peer support

What Is the Peer Support Unit?

Peer Support Unit has been founded to provide “support for students by students”. Trained student staff see the needs of students from their perspective as fellow students and can offer the appropriate assistance.

Peer Support Unit is comprised of three sections – The Peer Support Unit: Student Consultation Section, The Peer Support Unit: Accessibility Services Section and The Peer Support Unit: Department of International Students.

The first organizes events and provides consultation in the Peer Support Room. The second assists students with additional needs for the accessibility of information (note-taking and reference digitalization of academic resources) as well as mobility. The third offers consultation services in multiple languages at the International Student Support Desk. By having these three sections working together, the Peer Support Unit is committed to providing a wider and deeper range of support.

Accessibility Services Section

Major Initiatives

  • Note-taking
  • Reference digitalization of academic resources

Peer supporters (student supporters) at the Accessibility Services Office help students with additional needs. Their main activities include assistance to the accessibility of information by note-taking (by computer or by hand) as well as the digitalization of reference materials.

Note-taking

This is to help students with hearing difficulties with the accessibility of information by taking notes by computer or by hand. Audio information including professors’ lectures are captured in visually recognizable information.

Reference Digitalization of academic resources

We digitalize reference materials, so that students with visual problems can enlarge and invert to read the documents more easily. It also enables the use of text-to-speech software.
